A
30+ year veteran of the direct marketing, wholesale and retail industries,
George Mollo has served in senior executive positions for several direct mail
companies, including "start-ups" and "turn-arounds.” These companies included
Lillian Vernon Corporation, ProTeam.com (Genesis Direct), Disney Direct, and J.
Crew Group, Inc. With hands-on experience at all levels of management, including
financial, operational, systems and merchandising, Mr. Mollo has achieved
success in the turnaround of several catalogs, and now is a sought after
consultant by catalog, wholesale, and e-commerce companies including industry
related service companies based on his proven track record.
Mr. Mollo has designed and implemented merchandise planning and forecasting
systems, as well as the programming of a customized Import PO system for a
Fortune 500 corporation. His overall management expertise contributed
substantial improvements to the “bottom line” for Lillian Vernon, Disney Direct,
J. Crew and other catalog operations. He started his career, spending 10+ years
at Sak’s Fifth Avenue and the start-up of Kid’s R Us and then broadened his
experience by spending several years working for a wholesale import distributor
before entering the catalog and direct marketing industry.
As Senior Vice President of Merchandise Operations at Lillian Vernon Corporation
he increased the quantity of new product in several catalogs, yielding a 22% to
70% increase in new item productivity. In titles where he directed a change in
merchandise mix and creative direction, the productivity per page circulated
increased 28%-33% over the previous year.
At Disney Direct, operational, merchandising, marketing and other across the
board changes implemented by Mr. Mollo saved $1.6m+ within the first year. His
efforts were key factors in the “turn-around” of this division, attaining an
operating income of 15.9% EBITDA (from an operating loss the prior year), all
within a 14-month time period.
While Vice President of Merchandise Planning/Operations at J. Crew Group, Mr.
Mollo controlled a $350m+ catalog and increased final fill rates by more than
21%, increased inventory turns from 1.4 to 3.1 annualized, and decreased
overstock generated by 20%+.
Mr. Mollo served as Chairman of the Direct Marketing Association’s Catalog &
Multichannel Marketing Council for 5 years (2002-2007) and is also a member of the Programming Advisory Committee for the DMA's
Annual Catalog Conference. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and contributes
articles to several industry publications.
